Action-packed day from the get-go! Lonnie and I headed out early morning from Collin Park Marina for some summer fishing on the water. Hot bite and happy crew! Charlie and I headed out early morning in late spring from Collin Park Marina with clearing skies rolling in for the afternoon. Water conditions were solid for our multi-species approach and Charlie was ready to get after it. We launched our 4-Hour Boat Trip with Capt. Easy limits. Minnows are king. A fish or a miss every cast today. Had to weed through a couple dinks. The guys had a great time l showed the tech needed on how to catch these fish in the creek systems as they were having trouble. But now they absolutely get it and I know they will catch fish tomorrow all on their own. We went through a couple barometric air pressure swings and I showed them why the fish have shut down and then the fishing started getting good again and the barometric pressure was starting to steady so they got to see that firsthand on what happens with the air pressure goes up more than .02 at a time. Will it steady out in five minutes or is it gonna be three hours? You never know. The other people down there, tossing jigs and rooster tails only had no more than six. So again, if you want to guaranteed limit, minnows are king

White Bass Spawning Run. Good morning was relatively nonstop action about every minute or two not on fire but good. Once the sun hit the water, the bite slowed tremendously so we moved to a shady pocket and finished up the limit. Careythornfishing.com

Annual White Bass Run afternoon trip  Absolutely amazes me sometimes how many fish one creek can hold. All the deep holes in Rowlett Creek have a ton of fish in them. Limits everyday this year, and its easy using 4 pound line only -not six -not eight, 4 pound only & your catch ratio will definitely go up. Started fishing at about 4 o’clock once we got to the water. Had our limit by about 5 PM already going home, hopefully traffic’s not too bad. At the end of the trip, I started jumping the rest of my minnows since I caught about 3 pounds so I obviously had extra. Started chumming the water and started a little feeding frenzy in a group of Flyfisherman came up and instantly caught a fish in the surfacing fish. Got all National Geographic and stuff down there! I took a picture of the fish finder and what white bass look like sitting in 1-2 ft of water. The spot they were sitting in was slow with a fish every 3-5 mins. I moved 50 yards down the bank and there they were. Landed over 200 fish from 8-11 am. The white dots are the individual white bass, and the cloud images near them are the schools of gizzard that they are swimming with

Lake Lavon Fishing Guide Report: Crappie: 12-15 ft on brush and timber. 1/16 th oz jig. Any color. Minnows working well too. The problem with the minnows is, you will catch a ton of babies so you will go through a pound of minnows in no time- I prefer to use jigs to save money. There are not many fish below 18 foot. Black Bass: as usual, the white and chartreuse spinner Bait has been super fun in the mornings along with soft plastic jerk baits, like the original Slugo would work great. Texas rigged without a weight twitching it making it dance underneath the surface. If the water is super clear that has been my go to for the last week. If it’s not clear, I will be throwing a 3 to 6 foot crawfish colored square bill. Bouncing it all over the boat ramps all the rip wrap surrounding them and any of the rip wrap you can find, is putting a limit usually in the boat before eight in the morning. If it’s past eight in the morning and you’re still out there, I would probably switch over to a 12 foot KVD series 5 sexy Shad 12 ft diver at around 8:30 in the morning. Soft plastics in darker colors, watermelon red preferably all have been working well Texas rigged, or creature baits Carolina rigged. The Alabama rigs seem to be spooking them a little bit. They seem to like that a lot better in October. Brush piles using a swim bait, gliding over the brush piles, will get a rise if one is in it. White Bass: it’s been 15 foot for the last two weeks. White RSR slabs 1 ounce Nd cut all the treble hooks off except one as it makes life easier and you don’t have a trail of dead babies that take all three barbs behind the boat. Little Ridge Point, Hybrid Point, and sometimes the island tip have been great. Every day this week we have limited out on Sam’s bass by 745 am at the latest. Tying a jig around 12 inches above your slab on a loop knot, you will catch two fish at a time. Two times this week I’ve had one client limited out in 13 drops As soon as we got there she caught 26 keeper fish in three drops. She had to let one go. For some reason, they are still spooked by the thumper. It’s very odd. I’ve never seen this before. But the splash is still working 100% bringing them to the boat and usually before your liver hits the bottom we’re getting slammed. Catfish: 15 foot on the flats, especially near the drop offs throw some maze out all around the boat and they will show up and they look like sand bass schooling on your screen. You’re gonna have to weed through a lot of babies, but you could catch your limit within an hour or two w punch bait after you bait all around your boat. Lake Lavon Fishing Guide Report launched at 6:15 and started the rounds. First stop was glass house, which was absolutely choked with Bait. But I knew it was at least 15 minutes early that we were there so I decided to go check the island, Little Ridge hybrid point and then come back to it about 830. Island tip was choked with babies and lots of yellow bass. Ran over to Little Ridge mixed bag again small fish couple keepers, but not what I was looking for. Went back to the island to to make sure they didn’t show up when I left, but it was still the same results. By this time it’s 815 so we went over to glass house. We had a few trickle under the boat and it was a fish every five minutes or so. We only needed 27 more at that point after picking at them around the lake. About 830 we were catching a fish every 30 seconds to a minute. But then about 845 the screen lit up and it was a keeper almost every drop. Finished the three man limit before 9 o’clock, which made it a little bit later than I like. I like to have the limit in the boat by at least 8 am, so we can relax and CPR Fish the rest of the day. Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard Fishing Guide Report: Lavon: White Bass: with the gates open there’s no real pattern yet. You still have to be out there early to see if you can get a top water bite or swim bait when they’re swimming on the surface blowing shad out of the water. The white egrets will be on the banks telling you pretty much where they should be. If you’re not getting bit within the first 30 minutes of sunlight, you’ll probably have to move out to 10 to 20 foot of water somewhere. And use slabs 1 ounce white or chartreuse. Crappie: gates are opening and closing making the Crappie’s pattern very mystical some days. Look on temper and brush piles 10 to 20 foot. Once the gate close the pattern should be 10 to 20 pretty much the rest of the summer. Start shallow work your way deeper until you figure out where they they’re holding that day as every day has been different. Channel Cats: are still good on baited holes and on the rip wrap and some brush. Using soured grain thrown up in the rocks and bushes hold them in there long enough to keep your limits. Black Bass: white and chartreuse spinner baits in the morning are still getting them around the rip wrap, concrete and shallow submerged brush on points and secondary points. The back of the Cove’s are not doing well anymore. Creature baits and worms Texas rig on rock piles and large brush piles are holding fish. Underwater points 10 to 15 foot Carolina rigging is working well. Hubbard: Today I helped Brandon w/ LeadSlingers at Hubbard. Had a seven person group go out this morning but we had to wait due to the 30 mile an hour gusts from seven to 9 o’clock, but we got out there at about 830 and the fish were blowing up right in the front of the marina. Threw paddle tales and Brandon through spinners and we quickly filled the box up with 175 keeper fish, seven man limit. It amazes me the way each lake fishes completely different. A lot of the times at Hubbard. The fish are way deeper than they are on Lavon usually. But that is where side imaging with the Humminbird’s comes in handy at finding them. You just have to zigzag along ledges and humps and the flats until you see something to Fish. Can’t just go out there randomly and drop a line and think you’re gonna get them, you gotta get the boat on them. Never overlook the birds if you see them hovering above the water, especially Great Blue Herons, if they’re hovering above the water out in the middle of the lake, they are 100% on feeding fish. But obviously if you see the seagulls dive bombing in the same area, you have to go check them out. But never leave Fish if they’re under your boat to run 100 yards away for surfacing Fish. Stay on the biting fish till they disappear then go hunt again. Sometimes when you go to chase the fish, you might spook them and they will go down and you have nothing to show for it. And absolutely positively 100%, do not roll your boat through the dang school of surfacing Fish. Figure out which way they’re pushing the Bait get ahead of them and just float and they will come right to you or get casting distance but do not go through the Fish . I thought that would be common sense lol but it is not. What if you had a big 20 foot boat with a big propeller going across your head? What are you gonna do? Kind of silly. I have to explain that.  thinking about it, though, those people might’ve needed glasses? Anyways, every day has been stellar on the lake and limits are pretty easy. Fish are starting to fatten up from the spawn and they’re looking great.! Some creeks have some, some of the creeks have None, and some of the creeks are choked with fish.  we are now starting to catch semi easy limits.  so we are now booking until May. After the cold front coming up next week should be pretty good and if we get any rain that should get most of the creeks something to catch Lake Lavon Dam has their gate open. Most of the fish are going to divert there until they close the gates. So Rowlett Creek might be a little slow till that happens. But I remember one year when I had the gates open 3 to 5000 CFI, all the Sandies went there along with Hybrids and the Crappie made a huge push up rowlett creek. Everybody even people with push button rods were getting limits of Crappie’s and maybe one to six sandy’s on every stringer we were seeing that year. 20 years doing it and I’ve never seen that amount of Crappie come out of a creek. But that was in the past, but it might happen again one year. Right now we’re using 4 pound line on 7 ft rods. Finessing the fluke or straight jigging back. Jigging bobber and the deeper spots is working well. But again, you’re gonna have to scout this year. Like at Lake Lavon the waters way up so you gotta go way up now. Unless you know where the little deep pockets are in the creek, you’ll have Fish resting in those. I think it’s only dumping 400 CFI or something I haven’t checked. But if they dumped over 1000 that’ll bring up the Hybrids. I’ve heard of a couple caught already, but not in big numbers. Accessories that I would highly highly recommend would be polarized glasses wades to keep sticks bugs, mud, and of course, water off of you, and soccer cleats or football cleats to keep you in the upright position, the whole trip. You don’t have to have waders, but like I said, they keep you clean. We rarely ever get into the water. It’s just some spots we might need to cross over knee deep water or such.
